Money Saving Beauty Tips

Today I will be sharing my super secret beauty tips. But not just any tips, these will actually save you money if you are a makeup whore like myself. We will be discussing using products to the full and how to save money on high-end brands. Because you really don't NEED makeup, but the addiction is too strong. *cough cough*

Ready? Here we go!

1. Make the most out of your products by using them in different ways. For example, you can use your favorite liquid foundation or moisturizer as an eyeshadow primer. I prime my eyelids with moisturizer and I can honestly say that it does work wonderfully as a primer. It makes the color bolder and last all day!

2. Continuing with the above, try your products in different ways. I've found that Smashbox Foundation Primer also makes an excellent makeup eraser when dabbed onto a q-tip. Infact, that's what I use it as instead of it's intended purpose.

3. Take advantage of free sample offers. Many high-end makeup boutiques will offer take home samples at request. These samples are great because they'll last for several uses and let you decide whether or not that $50 cream is really worth buying.

4. Invest in small jars when you order mineral makeup online. Why, you ask? I usually get a lot of awesome free samples with my online purchases, but they usually come in zip lock baggies. There's where the jars come in. Store your samples in these jars and reuse them when you're done. You can find inexpensive jars for sale at places like Aroma Haven (above for $0.35 each)

5. Buy samples instead of full sized products to start with. Rolling with the sample idea, some independent brands will offer reasonably priced sample size products. Mineral Makeup labels usually do this. Samples from places like Luire (above), Everyday Minerals, Aromaleigh and Paint Cosmetics that were very generous in size, these samples will last me a long time and are a fraction of the cost for a full sized product. Plus, it lets you decide whether or not to invest in the full size product.

6. Scope out the best deals before buying, especially online. If you're interested in buying a non-exclusive brand (one that is sold in many different places) look around online for coupon codes and specials, then decide which is the best deal. For example, let's say you found some perfume for $30 (plus $6.00 shipping) at one place and for $34 at another place. At first glance you would think the $30 would be a better deal, but it turns out the other store offers a free gift set with purchase or free shipping. So it's best to scope out the competition before making a purchase.

7. Look out for sales at big box stores. Places such as Sephora and Bath & Body Works usually have great sales where you can score products at a low price. Just a few weeks ago, Sephora had a 50% clearance on Sugar Cosmetics and a 75% clearance on Napoleon Perdis products. Time it right and you can get expensive labels for drugstore prices. The full sized NP set above is on sale for only $8.00! But get in quick, they're usually out of stock fast.

8. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's not worthy. I've found some of the best makeup ever that cost no more than $5.00. Hot Topic has their own line of makeup that is both fantastic and very affordable. I recommend their eyeshadow pigments, which are lovely and even come with a decent brush. NYX Cosmetics also has incredible products at a very very reasonable price, I love their Pearl Mania eyeshadow and I can honestly say it's one of the best I've used. Places like Cherry Culture have great makeup at very low prices. I love Cherry Culture!

9. Look for collaborations. I've noticed that quite a few big brands are partnering up with everyday stores to provide their name brand at a reasonable price. Target usually has quite a few of these both in the beauty and fashion world. Currently Target has partnered up with Napoleon Perdis, Pixi, and JK Jemma Kidd for a makeup collab. And let me say that some of the products are fantastic, such as the liquid eyeliner from JK.

10. Swap what you don't want/need. Get together with a few friends and trade unused products. You can try trading some used products such as perfume or loose eyeshadow too. I give my friends makeup I don't use all the time, I have a pile of new and lightly used products that they are welcomed to go through and pick what they want. They like it and can get some use out of things that would just normally would be sitting around.
